It’s not fudge!
Almost all of our soap bars are made in small batches (20 bars at a time) using the cold process method. All of our soap is made with goats milk, local honey, colloidal oatmeal, Shea butter, coconut oil, olive oil and lard. On occasion we offer coconut oil free or special requested batches.
They require a 6 to 8 week cure time. Occasionally we will do hot process method when we want a “rustic” soap bar look.
What’s the difference?!
Hot process is a longer process, usually a few hours, but once it is done “cooking” you add your fragrance, stick blend it one more time and hurry to get the soap in the mold! It will set up super quick and the top will dry out. It makes for an adorable rustic look. Once the loaf is cooled, it can usually be taken out within a few hours vs 1-2 days like the cold process method. The cure time is 2-4 weeks for hot process before it is safe for use.
The pros and cons
Hot process- cures quicker, sets faster and has a quicker turn around but the bars will be softer and last half the time
Cold process- slower cure time, sets slow and unmolds after 1-2 days but the bars will be harder and will last longer, you will get more for your money with these bars! You also have more options of pretty swirls (it can be done with hot process but it can be tricky!
This is why we choose cold process as our main process. When we make hot process, we still give it the same curing process as our cold process to insure a hard, longer lasting bar. We want our customers to have a good quality bar and take pride in the slower process to ensure that!
